Car Shipping 101

We get it – car shipping sounds intimidating. There are so many options to choose from and so many things that are unknown. What do you choose? It’s actually quite simple. Let us break it down for you.

Whether your shipping your vehicle across the state or across the country, the process is the same and the carrier will require the same information. When you choose to work with MotorCarTrans, our goal is to make the process even more quick and affordable for you.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
–Vehicle Details–
– Make
– Model
– Year
– Does the Vehicle Run?
– Current Location
– Destination

Another thing to keep in mind is if there is a specific date you will need the vehicle by. If not, then you’re ready for the next step in the process. If so, you’ll want to check out our article on “Expedited Shipping“. Expedited Shipping offers delivery on or by an exact date, (with additional fees).

Other options available are door-to-door and terminal to terminal transport. Door-to-door transport is exactly what it sounds like. The carrier will pick up your vehicle at your “door” and deliver it to your final destination “door”. Terminal-to-terminal transport means your vehicle will need to be dropped off at a terminal (location provided by the carrier) where it will await transport. When it is delivered, it will be delivered to another terminal in the destination city (or close to), where you will then pick it up. It will not be delivered to you. It is important that you feel your car is safe and protected during its journey, which is why may carriers offer open and enclosed shipment options. Open shipping is the most common type of shipping whereas enclosed is used for clossic, exotic, and rare vehicles that need protection from road debris and even the weather. See open vs. enclosed.

Moving ahead with standard shipping, you’ll want to fill out our quick and secure online quote form. By filling this out, you’ll receive 10 quotes from licensed & bonded carriers all competing for your business. You can use these quotes to negotiate the best price that works for your budget. Don’t settle for the first price you get. And always remember, just because it’s the LOWEST price, it doesn’t necessarily mean, it’s the best company to use. Make sure you do your research to find out how previous moves have gone with the company in question.

Finally, if your vehicle does not run, you need to be sure to inform the carrier. Most can still transport the vehicle, but there will be an additional charge as they will need to bring additional equipment to load the vehicle on the transport truck.
